BUSHCRAFT

Our Bushcraft courses run over a weekend during which participants will have the opportunity to learn basic shelter building, knife skills, cooking on an open fire and a variety of fire lighting techniques.

Our courses have a strong message of environmental sustainability and sensitivity.

BUSHCRAFT FOR SCHOOLS

We provide safe, educational bushcraft and wilderness courses for students in all year groups. This is a great accompaniment to or precursor to Duke of Edinburgh expeditions.

This course starts with a shelter building workshop at the end of which the participants are divided into teams and tasked with building their own shelters over a set time period. Once the shelters are completed each team rotates around a number of bushcraft skills stations, these include knife skills, fire lighting techniques, snare construction, rabbit skinning and butchery, tepee erection, and a dutch arrow
workshop.

Lunch, dinner, and breakfast are all prepared by the participants and then cooked on the open fire which allows the participants to really engage with the bushcraft ethos and their surrounding environment. Spending the night sleeping in traditional native American tipis allows the participants to further enhance their immersion in the natural environment.

WHY CHOOSE A MOUNTAINWISE BUSHCRAFT COURSE?

Our bushcraft courses are specifically designed to help children and young adults gain a basic understanding of bushcraft, and to experience nature and the natural environment in a safe, fun and educational way.

Our courses help participants to develop a greater understanding and appreciation of the natural environment whilst gaining long term life skills such as team working, and confidence in their individual abilities whilst fostering independence, self reliance and social skills.

Our courses help participants to understand and manage risk in a controlled environment.
