WHY CHOOSE MOUNTAINWISE?

At Mountainwise we are dedicated to delivering the best professional outdoor environmental education to young people.

We have been delivering DofE expeditions at Bronze, Silver and Gold level for over 25 years and were awarded The Duke of Edinburgh Approved Activity Provider Certificate in 2010.

HIGHLY QUALIFIED STAFF

Our staff team are all qualified, experienced professionals with first aid certificates relevant to their qualification.

All our staff have to complete our own in house training course before they are able to lead a Mountainwise expedition. They receive a staff handbook and regular training updates to ensure high standards and consistency of delivery.

We also have over 30 DofE accredited assessors allowing for staff continuity throughout the expedition sections of The Award.

All staff are DBS checked.

HIGH STAFF RATIOS

Practise expeditions are staffed at a ratio of 1 member of staff per group (maximum of 7 participants).

Assessment expeditions are staffed at a ratio of 1 member of staff per 2 groups (maximum 14 participants).

ALL CAMPING EQUIPMENT IS PROVIDED

This means that there is no requirement for participants to buy expensive equipment, and ensures that all the equipment used is appropriate and of high quality.

We provide the following: rucksacks, sleeping mats, sleeping bags and liners, tents, maps and compasses, cooking stoves and fuel, waterproofs.

DETAILED CLASSROOM TRAINING

Our high staff ratio at classroom training sessions of 1 member of staff per 2 groups (maximum of 14 participants) allows for attention to detail at the planning stage.

All subjects covered in the training course are backed up with hand-out materials.

During the training course all route planning and route cards for the assessed expeditions are completed.

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT

We complete all expedition notification paperwork including the Green Forms required for Silver and Gold expeditions, thus lifting a considerable burden from the DofE co-ordinator.

OTHER PROVISION

We also provide emergency vehicles and all food and camping equipment for attending teachers.
